Ms. McKenney's Guidance Class

Upcoming Lessons

Dear Families,

Welcome back to school! We have a wonderful group of smart and interesting students at our school this year. We are all very excited about all of the fun things we will be doing!

Now that we’re starting to settle in, I wanted to get in touch with you and share some information.

About Me
My name is Krystal Mckenney and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself because I will be your child's School Guidance Counselor this 2009/2010 school year. I am a graduate of (West Memphis High School located in West Memphis, Arkansas and I attended college at Tennessee State University located in Nashville, TN, where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and my Masters of Science Degree in School Guidance. I will be taking additional classes this fall so that I may stay up with the latest trends in order to be the best counselor possible.
My philosophy for learning is that each child is unique, and each child learns in a different way. One of my jobs as a counselor is to help your child discover his or her individuality and work alongside with them to maximize it. I am really looking forward to a fun–filled and educational year!

About Guidance
Guild School will be emphasizing a character building “word of the month.”  Weekly classroom sessions will be held in each grade, as Guidance is a part of a six day related arts rotation. In the classes I will use stories, games and other activities with the girls and boys as they discuss ideas such as honesty, courage, hard work, loyalty, compassion, careers, self discipline, friendship, and faith. The students will participate in activities that include the 8 Keys of Excellence”, getting along with others, drug awareness, and child abuse. There will also be opportunities for individual and group guidance.  All students and parents are welcome to speak with me when certain situations arise. Many family separations, divorces, marriages, and deaths create difficult situations for children. Please feel free to recommend your child for any individual counseling.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or send an email to
or simply drop in. You can reach me at the school phone number, which is (615) 452-5583. I am always happy to talk to the families of my students. You are the most important people in my students’ lives! Let’s work together to make sure your child gets everything he or she needs to be successful this year!

Sincerely,

Krystal Mckenney

School Guidance Counselor
